Fraser Cascade School District 78 is observing Pink Shirt Day in a variety of ways, taking a stand against bullying and harassment.
Agassiz Elementary Secondary School has posted a large visual on the bulletin board called “What Does Kindness Mean To You?” Principal Greg Lawley said the board offers the opportunity for students to write a note answering the question; the notes will be gathered in a “pot of gold” and placed on a rainbow on the bulletin board.
“The purpose of this is to remind people that it really is the little things that make the biggest difference!” Lawley told The Observer.

At Hope Secondary, there are events throughout the week focused on spreading kindness, starting with the annual Taco Tuesday followed by Wear Kindness Gear and Spread Kindness Day on Wednesday, which will feature a presentation by speaker Ian Tyson. Silver Creek Elementary students will participate in a door decorating contest and focus on kindness for the day.
Boston Bar Elementary students will hear from their teachers about Pink Shirt Day and gather for a school group picture in the gym followed by a community walk.
Pink Shirt Day is held on the last Wednesday of every February in Canada. It was founded as a means of support for a student who had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Today, it is observed in countries all over the world, including China, Japan and New Zealand. Donations to Pink Shirt Day fund anti-bullying initiatives, including Leave Out Violence Society, Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of B.C. and Stigma-Free Society.
