Storytime in the Park 2017 kicked off its first reading of the summer in Pioneer Park today as organizers, kids, parents and the community got together in the shade to enjoy a good read.

Agassiz Library Supervisor Terrill Scott and Artist in Residence at the Ranger Station Art Gallery, writer Bren Simmers took turns reading a page from the chosen book of the day.

Storytime in the Park is a community-based, fun, family literacy program that encourages and grows the joy of reading together and provides an opportunity for food, entertainment and activities.

The Park was filled with curious listeners who contributed to the interactive-styled theme, where participants will get a chance to contribute to the creation of their very own storybook The Bookeater, which they will then be able to enjoy as a copy of their own.
“All of the pictures and the stories from today will be put into a book and that’s why they have all these words everywhere” said Simmers, of several word cards that had been placed on the lawn to help build The Bookeater.
