Hundreds gathered on traditional Sts'ailes territory for the inaugural walk for Truth and Reconciliation in 2021.

The Sts'ailes First Nation is once again inviting the public to their annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Walk.

Their memorial walk for Truth and Reconciliation takes place on Monday, Sept. 30, beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Sasquatch Crossing Eco Lodge, located at 15500 Morris Valley Road.

Traditionally, participants are asked to wear orange in honour of the day.

This year's walk marks the third such event in honour of residential school survivors and in memory of those who lost their lives; the inaugural event in 2021 drew hundreds of people to Sts'ailes traditional territory to observe and walk in solidarity. Drummers with songs of healing will lead community members and other participants in a walk designed to promote awareness about the residential school system and the impacts it has had on First Nations people across Canada.

The walk ends at Sandpiper Golf Course (14282 Morris Valley Road), where Sts'ailes leaders traditionally deliver addresses reflecting on the day.

Shuttle service will be available to those who need it.
