Sunny Saturday Party in the Park rocks Pioneer Avenue

First fundraising event for aquatic centre filled with fun for all ages

District of Kent residents celebrated in the sun at the Party in the Park on Saturday, May 14.

The big event at Centennial Park featured pony rides, face painting, a climbing wall, the Spray Park, a performance from the SuperDogs and live entertainment. The evening was capped off with an outdoor showing of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Proceeds from the event went toward the future Regional Aquatic Centre, to be located adjacent to the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre on Pioneer Avenue.The amount raised during Party in the Park was not available as of press time.

More than a decade in the making, Aquatic Centre will eventually replace the Ferny Coombe Pool and will be equipped with a six-lane lap pool, lazy river, hot tub, steam room and leisure pool. The total estimated cost of the project is $16.1 million. Multiple levels of government have provided more than $13 million in grant funding for the upcoming project.
