VIDEO: K’omoks artist/anthropologist featured at Ruby Creek gala

Using pop culture icons to make a statement about resilience of indigenous stories

Andy Everson presented more than his art Friday night at the 4th annual Native Art Gala at Ruby Creek Art Gallery in Agassiz.

The K’omoks and Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations man also sang and drummed during dancing at the venue before describing his artistic work.

Most recently known for mixing iconographies with his use of indigenous markings on Star Wars character masks, Everson has also been commissioned to design coins for the Royal Canadian Mint.

The annual gala presented other artists as well as food, music and wine.
