A sold out Cheam Village Hall bustled with activity while volunteers topped up their guests with pots of tea on Saturday afternoon.

The fifth annual Dickens Tea fundraiser for the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society is a major source of income for the group and has sold all seats since its inception in 2012.

It kicks off the holiday season for the community, says Society board of directors member Bev Kennedy, as some of the army of necessary volunteers move from table to table behind her.

“We are the community repository for its history,” says Kennedy. “And we do a good job at that.”

She credits the 30 to 40 people who give their time for free, as well as grants and community support for the success of the society.
