A local alt-punk folk band will once again be hosting a benefit concert, but this year funds will go towards flood relief.

Chilliwack band, Like Bears, presents its 14th annual show ‘Vestival’ on Friday, Dec. 10.

“The whole theme is just to wear vests, have fun, and that’s pretty much it,” said band member Leo Nickle.

Well that, and the fact that all proceeds from admission will go towards the Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund.

Vestival 14 features the following bands: Like Bears, Smother, Goat Rodeo, Morse Code Literature, and Arthropoda. The show is in conjunction with West Valley Youth, a local collective that organizes local music shows.

The story behind Vestival is a very silly one, Nickle said during an interview last year for Vestival 13 where they raised money for Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society.

Many years ago, he was playing a show with his old band plus another band where the members were all wearing vests.

“We were making a lot of vest puns with them and we joked that we should put on a vestival,” he said. So that’s what they’ve been doing since 2008.

Vestival 14 is at 9400 College St. on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). Admission is $10 and all proceeds go towards the Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund.
