It’ll be a two-for-one weekend with crafts and music this Saturday and Sunday at Harrison Hot Springs.

Two annual events, Harrison Country Craft and Bands on the Beach, will come together to add some sounds and colour to the quaint, artsy community on Labour Day weekend.

The Harrison Festival Society will present Harrison Country Craft, while Tourism Harrison presents Bands on the Beach.

The craft market will maintain its character as a cozy, indoor event at Harrison Memorial Hall, with a range of vendors selling a wide range of work. The 30-plus vendors that make up Harrison Country Craft offer the highest quality home decor, body care, food, fashion and artful creations amidst the small-town atmosphere and hospitality of Harrison Hot Springs.

“As with our waterfront Festival Art Market, which takes place in July, Harrison Country Craft features handmade artisanal products,” says Andy Hillhouse, Harrison Festival Society artistic director. “The ‘country’ in the name partly reflects the rural, village setting of Harrison. It also happens to work nicely with the fact our market takes place just across the road from the annual country music event Bands on the Beach.”

The highly successful Bands on the Beach, will be celebrating its seventh year. With the breathtaking scenery of Harrison Lake as its backdrop, this increasingly popular two-day concert series showcases some of the Fraser Valley’s best country music talent including Harrison’s own Todd Richard, Devon Coyote, Faith Numada Band, Grace Under Pressure, and more.

An annual community event for more than 20 years, Harrison Country Craft is one of the main fundraising activities for the Harrison Festival Society with 10 per cent commission collected on all vendor sales to help support the society’s year-round events, including its 30th Season of Performing Arts, which will kick off with an opening concert on Sept. 23 featuring flamenco dance/music group Toque Flamenco.

Harrison Country Market runs Saturday, Sept. 2 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sept. 3 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in and around the historic Harrison Memorial Hall. Bands on the Beach is Sept. 2 and 3 from 1 to 6 p.m. both days. Both events are free.
