May the scores be with you: Star Wars concert comes to Chilliwack stage

Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra brings 'May the 4th Be With You' spring show to Chilliwack Cultural Centre

Members of a Chilliwack orchestra want people to bring lightsabers, Darth Vader masks and Chewbacca costumes to their next concert.

The Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra presents spring concert 'May the 4th Be With You' on Sunday, May 4 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

That afternoon, the orchestra will perform music from John Williams who has composed some of the most popular film scores in cinema history, including Star Wars. The orchestra will play pieces from the original Star Wars trilogy, the sequels, and more.

They're calling it an "uplifting matinee concert of music from one of the most revered composers of his generation."

Orchestra artistic director and conductor Gregory Johnson, who is a member of the Vancouver Pops Orchestra, was key to the two orchestras collaborating for the concert.

The Vancouver Pops Orchestra, which will perform alongside the local orchestra, specializes in popular music repertoire and provides a "fun, uplifting orchestral experience."

While there is a very strong Star Wars emphasis, other music included on the program are the themes from Schindler’s List and Harry Potter, both scores of which were composed by Williams.

The concert will feature two brand-new arrangements of music from Rogue One and Ahsoka, plus 'A Sky Full of Stars' by popular British rock band Coldplay.

Visuals will also be part of the program, and people are encourage to come dressed in costumes.
