Saskia and Darrel kick off spring tour with Chilliwack concert

Saskia and Darrel will kick off their spring tour with a concert at the Chilliwack United Church on March 2.

A storytelling, musical duo is kicking off their spring tour in Chilliwack.

Saskia and Darrel, The Great Plains, are a veteran touring act performing true Canadiana. They’ll be telling stories of Canada’s rural history through Celtic songs, bluegrass, folk, country and gospel, at Chilliwack United Church on March 2 at 7 p.m.

The show is a fundraising concert for the work United Church does providing meals to people in the community.

It promises “music, merriment and mayhem as Saskia and Darrel deliver a fun blend of music, an unpredictable series of songs that change every time you see them.” They also sing in Gaelic, Dutch, German and French, and their lyrics touch on grain elevators, war brides, patchwork quilts, Louis Riel and David Thompson. They also share songs about their own spiritual journey.
