UFV students, alumni ready to ‘take over’ Chilliwack Cultural Centre

UFV’s School of Creative Arts will blend art, film, theatre at ‘Take Over Festival’

Art, film and theatre will combine at a show coming up in Chilliwack featuring University of the Fraser Valley students and alumni.

The UFV Take Over Festival will be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Saturday, June 1.

UFV’s School of Creative Arts will showcase a diversity of artwork produced by students and alumni. This festival will capture a harmony of artwork including, performances from UFV’s Director Showcase, student-produced films, and interactive visual art installations.

A diverse selection of scheduled performances and films will take place inside the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The shows include a wide range of stories and genres to experience, including emotional narratives like ‘Peace In My Night,’ thrilling plotlines like ‘Twitch or Murder by Midnight,’ and surprising performances from ‘The Wedding Story and Opus.’

The lobby will be filled with live music and visual art installations.

At 1 p.m., people can participate in Yarrow Fields, a live collage event hosted by Cobi Timmermans with accompanying music performed by Alexandrah Pahl.

An art exhibition will be open throughout the event, showcasing textile clothing designs by Gray Giroux, installation sculptures by Chandradeep Majumder, acrylic canvas by Abbye Mozar, portraits by Rory Lauzon, and a live henna booth managed by Arshdeep.

Ticketholders can also enter a raffle draw to win donated merchandise or gift cards.

The UFV Take Over Festival is Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for UFV students, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
