An Agassiz family is shocked after a “magical experience” on Tuesday evening.
High housing prices and mortgage payments had led the Allenby’s to sell their five-bedroom Agassiz house. To rebuild credit and save money, the family had decided to move into a bachelor trailer with their four children and live minimally for the next six months or so at Camp Bridal.
Tuesday had just been another day of packing for Kaitlynn Allenby. After she and her husband put their kids to bed, Allenby stood in her living room taking in the overwhelming sight of all the moving boxes surrounding her. From the window, Allenby suddenly noticed a Ford truck pulling up the driveway.
She thought it was unusual; they weren’t expecting any company.
Allenby opened her door to greet the man walking up the front steps. He handed her an envelope and promptly told her how every year, he and his family randomly selected a family to give a Christmas gift to.
“I was in total shock that someone would show up at my step with a gift for some random person,” Allenby recalls. “It felt like a fairy tale.”
In shock and already beginning to tear up, Allenby shook the man’s hand and thanked him, too overwhelmed to get his name before he was gone.
“I didn’t open the card in front of him but I was extremely thankful and emotional,” she says. “I was in shock. It was just so unreal.”
Once inside, Allenby opened the envelope to find a card with $500 cash and $100 in Superstore gift cards inside.
“May your hearts be filled with the wonder of this beautiful season…May your souls be touched by the magic of Christmas,” read the card.
“It was just overwhelming because I feel like there’s somebody that could use it more than we could,” Allenby says. “But at the same time, it was just such a blessing that we can use it.”
“This is so unbelievable,” she adds. “I am so touched and I want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”
Allenby says her family will pay the kindness forward by finding a family who needs the Superstore gift cards.
