A package containing contraband, including drugs, with an estimated institutional value of $170,125 was seized in Mission Institution.
According to a news release from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) on Friday (May 2), the contraband and unauthorized items were seized in the medium-security unit.
The seizure included methamphetamine, THC shatter, tobacco, and one charging cable.
Police were notified and the institution is investigating, per the release.
The CSC prevents drugs from entering institutions through tools including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.
"CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions," the news release reads.
