Since I last wrote The Observer (Aug 12, 2021) remembering the late John Murray of ‘Antique Gifts & Things Chintz’, my family chose the 12th of July to visit the village for an overnight stay. I was delighted to meet Ken, proprietor of Harrison Antiques at 146 Lillooet Ave., who is to be commended for his love of the community.
Further fortune fell upon me to meet, once more, noted Irishman and longtime Harrison resident, John Allen. He introduced me to the second printing of Daphne Sleigh’s book ‘The People of The Harrison’, which I purchased and is a great read.
A hearty conversation with John about civic education in schools dominated with local and school board elections slated for this October. My Social Studies 10 students at St. Thomas Aquinas in North Vancouver will have the honour of John Allen as a guest speaker to share experiences and encouragements for civic engagement this fall.
