A long-time fixture of the Harrison Hot Springs restaurant community has shut its doors, but it’s not over yet.

Kitami Japanese Restaurant officially closed its doors on Dec. 31 at its Harrison location. However, owners Yumiko and Nao Shishido announced on Saturday, Jan. 14, via their business Facebook page that they are working with a realtor to find a new location.

“Please know that both Nao and I are doing well and business is excellent,” Yumiko’s post read. “As our tenancy agreement is set to expire, we felt it necessary to make the difficult decision to close doors at this location, which has served us all so well over the past many years.”

“we are sorry it’s taken us so long to notify you,” the post continues. “We miss you so much; we miss seeing all of you.”

Comments from Kitami regulars were overwhelmingly supportive, and the owners are hopeful that they will find a new location.

“We are ready for this new chapter and do look forward to meeting you all again in the new year,” they added.

Yumiko and Nao have owned Kitami for 20 years; the restaurant itself has been in business for about 30 years.
