Calling all young First Nations entrepreneurs.
The Sqewqel Development Corporation is hosting the Sto:lo Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (YEI), a two-day event taking place November 5 and 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Seabird Island Band Gymnasium (2895 Chowat Road).
Indigenous youth ages 16 to 24 are encouraged to participate in the workshop, which covers business basics, entrepreneurship and finance. The workshop is meant to “enable (youth) to contribute to the future of their community’s socio-economic development and well-being,” the organizers say. The goals of the weekend also include raising awareness about the importance of education and preparing youth for their current and future roles in their respective communities.

This event is open to all youth who self-identify as Indigenous across the Lower Mainland and South-Central Interior. Registration for the event is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration includes training materials, transportation (if requested before Nov. 1), entertainment during lunches and complimentary breakfast and lunch for both days. Door prizes will also be available with winners drawn on Sunday, Nov. 6; there’s a chance to win a PS5, MacBook, iPad and AirPods.
