The District of Kent issued an evacuation alert for 40 homes in the Harrison Mills area amid flooding concerns and rising water levels of the Harrison River.

An evacuation alert is a level under an evacuation order. An alert means residents have been given as much advance notice as possible that they should prepare to evacuate should officials at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) deem it necessary.

If you receive an evacuation alert:

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area in case you are separated.
  • Pack essential items like government-issued ID, medications, valuable papers and immediate care needs and keepsakes in the event of a quick departure.
  • Prepare to move disabled persons if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you or arrange for accommodations.
  • Arrange transportation and accommodations for all household members and fill gas tanks. If transportation is needed, call the Agassiz Fire Hall (604-796-2614) or District Hall (604-796-2235) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Check back with kentbc.ca and local news sources for information on evacuation orders and location of reception centre.

More to come.
