More than 6,000 pounds of food and $3,000 were gathered during the Agassiz Fire Department’s annual food drive.

Fire Chief Gerald Basten told The Observer the 6,378 pounds of food – just over three tons – and $3113.45 in donations from the community virtually matches last year’s contributions to the local food bank.

Much as they have for the past two years, firefighters from the AFD went door-to-door, gathering non-perishable foods, cash donations and other essential items left outside each door. In 2020, the event netted 5,600 pounds of food and just over $3,200 in cash. Last year, the community donated 6,635 pounds of food and $4,315 in cash donations.
