A meteorlogical triple threat came and went quietly through Agassiz-Harrison.
The residents of Agassiz-Harrison and beyond were forced to consider their holiday travel plans as a storm of ice, freezing rain and snow blew through the southern part of the province on Thursday (Dec. 22) and into Friday (Dec. 23), including Vancouver Island and throughout the Lower Mainland.
There were no reports of major vehicle incidents in the area. There was one reported power outage over the weekend, affecting 60 customers along Rockwell Drive when a tree fell across power lines on Boxing Day. The power was out for roughly seven hours before the lights came back on at about 4 p.m. There was also a 12-hour outage on Christmas Eve that affected 37 people in the District of Kent, but the cause of the outage appears to be equipment failure and it’s unclear if that had anything to do with the incliment weather.
Temperatures were expected to drop to -19 C with wind chill in Agassiz, according to the forecast from Weather Cananda. From Dec. 23 to Dec. 26, Agassiz was hit with a total of 92.9 millimetres of precipitation, roughly 68 per cent of the month’s total precipitation, according to Weather Canada. This set precipitation records on Dec. 24 (41.6 millimetres) and Dec. 26 (32 millimetres).
