UPDATE: Harrison CAO retires, two other village managers on leave

Madeline McDonald has retired after 7 years serving the village

In the wake of two other village officials on leave, the Village of Harrison Hot Springs has announced the retirement of CAO Madeline McDonald.

In a statement released Wednesday (Feb. 15) afternoon, village officials announced that McDonald’s retirement was effective as of Jan. 31. McDonald has served local governments across B.C. for 25 years, working in the village for the past seven years.

McDonald was on leave at the time of the announcement, Mayor Ed Wood told The Observer. Wood further confirmed that deputy CAO Debra Key and community services manager Rhona Schell are “on leave.”

“During her tenure she brought a lot of value to the community in terms of infrastructure upgrades and economic development and leaves the community in a sound financial position,” the statement reads. “The Village appreciates her many contributions to the community over the last seven years and sincerely wishes her well in her retirement.”

Speaking on McDonald’s behalf, the village stated that McDonald is proud of the team at the village office and is confident the community is in good hands.

“She would like both the community and the Council to know how proud she is to have served them and how lucky she feels to have been part of such a supportive and innovative team,” village officials stated.
