UPDATE: Pedestrian dead following crash in Chilliwack

Intersection at Vedder and Promontory roads closed indefinitely as police investigate

A man is dead after he was hit by a commercial vehicle at a busy intersection in Chilliwack.

The area of Vedder Road and Promontory Road was closed indefinitely as police investigated the fatal pedestrian collision that happened at 2:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The intersection was still closed off at 9 p.m.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) will be attending to assist with the investigation.

RCMP said the driver was co-operating with police.

“We are working to determine the circumstances of this incident, which has tragically claimed a life. The intersection will be closed for quite some time, most likely into the evening hours,” said Staff Sgt. Layne Penner with the Chilliwack RCMP. “Please plan an alternate route and avoid the area."

Initially, an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but was later called off.

It was the second fatal pedestrian collision in Chilliwack in less than 24 hours. A man died around 9 p.m. on Feb. 17 when he was hit by a vehicle on Boundary Road.

Anyone who witnessed the Feb. 18 crash or has information that may be related and has not yet shared it with police, is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.
