A power outage at Sasquatch Mountain Resort left 120 skiiers and snowboarders stuck on a chairlift for up to three hours on New Year Eve.
Resort manager Sam Hicks confirmed that the control panel and secondary power source were blown at 9:40 a.m. after the power had gone out 11 times over the previous four days.
“This couldn’t be worse timing for us during our peak period and we apologize for the inconvenience,” the resort said on Facebook. “Thanks to everyone for your understanding and patience.”
Ski patrollers and the Sasquatch Mountain Resort team did manual evacuations with rope to get everybody safe and off the mountain by early afternoon.
The hill reopened on Jan. 1 but the malfunctioned Sasquatch Chair is still closed for maintenance.
Power outages have hit the region hard following a series of snow and ice storms across the Fraser Valley. Outages have been reported from Harrison Mills and Mt. Woodside. According to BC Hydro less than 200 customers are without power as of Tuesday.
