Drugs and others items with a prison value of almost $115,000 were seized Monday, June 10 at Matsqui Institution, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

CSC said in a press release issued Monday (June 17) that the items were seized due to "the vigilance of staff members" and included THC concentrate, methamphetamine, tobacco, and SD cards and card readers.

"The police have been notified and the institution is investigating," the release said.

No further details were provided.

The CSC says it uses a number of methods – including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs – to prevent drugs from entering its institutions, and that it works in partnership with police.

The CSC also runs a tip line at 1-866-780-3784 to report drug use or trafficking or other concerning activities within federal prisons.
