Correctional Service Canada (CSC) officers at Kent Institution recently seized $156,000 in contraband and unauthorized items.
According to a release from the CSC, officers seized a contraband package on Sept. 28, the contents of which included 298 grams of THC shatter (solid cannabis extract), two cell phones and chargers. The total estimated institutional value of the seizure was $156,400.
The RCMP and CSC are investigating.

The CSC has a number of contraband-busting measures at their dispsal, including drug-detecor dogs, ion scanners and searches of buildings, personal property and inmates and visitors.
“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” they stated. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
The CSC has set up a tip line for all fedearl institutions concerning drug use and trafficking as well as other security-related concerns. The toll free number is 1-866-780-3784.
