The crossing of two highways may look a bit different in the near future.
During the District of Kent council meeting on Monday, July 18, the council approved a development permit for the corner of Highways 7 and 9. The proposed businesses include a restaurant wth a drive-thru, a gas bar and a car wash. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has approved ways in and out of the proposed complex.
Improvements to the area will include a dedicated left-turning lane. District officials will follow up with the developer as to what will become of the “Welcome to Agassiz” sign.

In other council business:
– Following a public hearing, council approved a bylaw permitting agri-tourism accommodation use. This opens the door to new business and recreation opportunities highlighting the rich agricultural history of the community.
– Project AIM co-founder Miel Bernstein, who presented during the June 27 council meeting, has raised nearly $16,000 during a fundraiser over the weekend. Bernstein reported this funding is enough to keep the program going for a full year.
The next regular Kent council meeting is scheduled for Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at Municipal Hall. Online attendance is also available through Microsoft Teams. Register online at kentbc.ca.
