Earthwise Agassiz is launching the Grow Your Own workshop series starting June 14.

'Tis the season to grow food and flowers, and Earthwise Agassiz has you covered.

Earthwise Agassiz recently announced Grow Your Own, a hands-on workshop series designed to help gardeners and growers use practical stills and knowledge to grow their produce organically. Earthwise Agassiz has been in the business since 2015, becoming a trusted local source of environmental education, creating future food security and sustainable farming practices.

The workshops are one hour long, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Earthwise Agassiz farm, located at 6031 Golf Rd. The series kicks off on June 14 with Building Healthy Soils, a session centred around soil health, nutrient cycles and the environment's effects on growing conditions. Organic Gardening 101 is scheduled for June 28, introducing participants to the world of organic gardening, garden design, soil care, crop selection and much more of the basics to get your garden started.

Perennial Food Crops is set for July 12. This session discusses edible plants that come back year after year, specifically showcasing climate-resistant and low-maintenance crops that offer long-term harvest. The series will wrap up on July 26 with Successful Gardening. This final session will zero in on extending the harvest season using practices such as crop rotation, staggered planting and strategies for optimal timing.

The Grow Your Own workshop series is free to attend but registration is required. To sign up, email projects@earthwisesociety.bc.ca.

Educational workshops like Grow Your Own are a crucial part of Earthwise Society's Community Growing and Sharing Farm initiative, which was unveiled last year. The farm is situated on a half- acre at the Agassiz site in hopes of giving local volunteers a place ot grow fresh produce and share surplus harvests to those in need through the Earthwise Harvest Box program.

Earthwise Society is headquartered in both Agassiz and Delta. The non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture, protecting urban habitat and fighting food insecurity.
