Three people were injured in a large fire that destroyed the Shell gas station at Bridal Falls Road near Chilliwack, on Saturday (June 7).
Popkum firefighters were first paged at 11:54 a.m., to respond to a motorhome on fire at the station.
When fire crews arrived, the gas bar area of the Shell was fully engulfed, according to a news release from the Fraser Valley Regional District.
The fire then spread to the store adjacent to the gas pumps and canopy, causing heavy damage. Ranchers Restaurant also sustained damage, as well some unattached buildings on site.
"Fire crews worked quickly under extreme conditions," the release stated.
Fire crews came from Popkum, Chilliwack and Agassiz, with a total of 33 firefighters on scene, as well as BC Ambulance paramedics and the RCMP. The fire was considered under control after about one hour.
One burn victim was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital in critical condition; two other people were transported in stable condition. No firefighters were injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the entire site is cordoned off for safety.
