Four new cases of COVID-19 reported in local health area: BCCDC data

COVID-19 numbers hovering in the single digits for several months

Aside from a concerning spike at the beginning of the year, 2022 is shaping up to be a better year for local COVID-19 cases compared to last year.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) recorded four new cases of COVID-19 between May 22 and 28 in Agassiz-Harrison. There has been an average of 10 cases per week for 2022, the average of which is skewed by two weeks of more than 50 cases toward the beginning of the year. In total, 225 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Agassiz-Harrison in 2022.

There have been no further reports of exposure events or outbreaks in Agassiz-Harrison schools. The last inmate in the Mountain Institution outbreak has recovered; the seven-week outbreak saw 131 cases of COVID-19. There were no deaths associated with this or any other local outbreaks.

The following is where Agassiz-Harrison stands as of May 29:

Ages 5-11: 38 per cent partially vaccinated

Ages 5 +: 80 per cent fully vaccinated (84 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 12 to 17: 69 per cent fully vaccinated (73 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 18+: 85 per cent fully vaccinated (88 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 18 to 49: 78 per cent fully vaccinated (83 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 50+ : 90 per cent fully vaccinated (91 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 18-49 with booster: 35 per cent

Ages 50+ with booster: 73 per cent

Ages 70+ with booster: 82 per cent
