Village officials confirmed that council meetings would return to Memorial Hall (290 Esplanade Avenue) in October.
According to a statement from the village, council discussed moving the meetings back to the village office at 495 Hot Springs Road last November.
The original intent following the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic would be to move meetings from Memorial Hall back to the village office on a permanent basis. This was met with objections from a significant number of residents as interest in local politics spiked following the 2022 election.
Council seems to have unofficially settled on keeping meetings at Memorial Hall on a regular basis except when the venue is otherwise occupied during big summer events. This includes, for example, the Harrison Festival of the Arts.
During the most recent (July 8) council meeting, ex-councillor John Allen asked council to reconsider relocating the meetings back to Memorial Hall during the summer. The motion failed due to the lack of a seconder.
Those interested in attending the Aug. 12 meeting in person can register by phone at 604-796-2171 or via email at info@harrisonhotsprings.ca. Questions can be emailed to the same email address. The village office council chambers has a capacity of 18 audience members. Registration requests are now open and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
