Snow removal in Harrison Hot Springs might look a bit different this season.
Harrison Hot Springs Mayor Ed Wood proposed a pilot project in which village staff would plow snow into the centre of the roads rather than near driveways along a one-block section of Naismith Avenue near Eagle Street.
Wood said there have been multiple instances where ambulances were hindered from providing first aid in emergency situations due to the placement of the snow.
“The snow blocks (the residents) in,” Wood told council. “The paramedics show up, they have difficulty getting them in and out of the ambulances. Coun. (Leo) Facio asked if the village would consider plowing snow to the centre, and that would mean everybody would have to go around the block. They all felt that would be a good alternative to having the driveways blocked.”
The area of the snow removal project is currently limited to Naismith only because it is in its pilot stages; should the program be successful, the village staff can look to expand, Wood said.
The village would consult with the Harrison Hot Springs Fire Department prior to starting the project. Wood said all residents in the affected area would receive a letter detailing the pilot project.
