According to an announcement from Tourism Harrison River Valey, the Harrison Hot Springs Public Mineral Pool will be closed from April 1 to May 15 for “deep cleaning and reparative services.”

The public mineral pool was a hot topic last spring to autumn. Up until 2022, the public mineral pool was shut down due ot the COVID-19 pandemic. The pool was initially scheduled to open in late May 2022 on the weekends, but this was reversed a month later when Tourism Harrison announced the pool would be closed again due to a lack of certified lifeguards.

A group of residents went so far as to ask Chilliwack-Kent MLA Kelli Paddon to intervene. When Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon MP Brad Vis visited Harrison last summer, despite the public pool not being in his particular political arena, it became the overrunning topic of discussion during his town hall-style, informal meeting.

The concerned residents frequently cited the wrding of the conditional water license for the hot springs water, which is currently held by Harrison Hot Springs Resort’s parent company, Saliance Global Holdings. Some residents believed the license holder to be in violation of the conditional water license based on the language within. The license not only lays out how many gallons per minute of hot springs water should be made available to the public, but that the “flow of water shall be made available to the public at all times between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day, at a point to which the public is entitled to free access or to which the licensee grants free public access.”
