Memorial Hall's going to get a bit busier.
The village of Harrison Hot Springs recently received $5,000 in funding from B.C.'s PlanH Program for "enhancing connection through social and recreational activities" to be hosted at Memorial Hall (290 Esplanade Avenue).
The grant would cover activities that are provided free of charge. In lieu of payment, residents may make a donation to the local food bank.
While details are still being crystallized, village official announced activities would include a movie night, yoga, dance and more.
The PlanH program is designed to support local governments and First Nations communities in providing resources and opportunities to address the physical and mental health of their people.
Harrison received one of 17 grants of up to $5,000. The Healthy Public Policy Funding stream further provided 12 grants of up to $15,000 for projects designed to improve the health and well-being of communities through updating or improving health-related policies.
“Grants through the PlanH program will help improve overall quality of life by supporting projects that address the unique needs of each community, with solutions that are based on local knowledge and experiences,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health in a statement. “By building resources, practices, and learning opportunities that focus on people, we also build stronger communities.”
The Seabird Island community also received $5,000 for the 2024 Sto:lo Youth Entrepreneur Initiative. The Sto:lo YEI helps Indigenous youth to develop financial awareness and literacy and provides mentorship in establishing businesses and becoming more self-sufficient and financially sustainable.
