Inmate assaulted at Kent Institution in Agassiz

RCMP, correctional officers are investigating

A Kent Institution inmate was treated in an outside hospital following an assault on Monday, June 6.

According to Correctional Services Canada, an inmate attacked the victim at the maximum security institution, and staff responded quickly to the situation. The inmate was transported to hospital after being evaluated.

The assailant was identified and no further inmates or staff members were injured in the incident. The Agassiz RCMP and CSC officers are investigating.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the CSC stated.
