A Kent Institution inmate was recently hospitalized after correctional officers discovered they had suffered injuries from an assault.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said Kent Institution staff members evaluated the inmate and transported them to an outside hospital for treatment. The inmate has since been returned to the maximum-security institution.

The assailant was identified and action has been taken, the CSC stated. The Agassiz RCMP as well as CSC officers are investigating the incident.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the CSC stated.
