District of Kent residents have had a lot to say about active transportation, and now they have a chance to make their voice heard again.

The District of Kent is in the process of creating an Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP) and is asking for input from locals.

Active transportation is defined as any human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling or using a mobility aid such as a wheelchair.

The federal Active Transportation Fund fuels the local ATNP, which will establish “a collective vision for active transprotation in Kent and identify priority projects and locations for infrastructure,” according to a release from the District of Kent. The ATNP will provide guidelines for priority improvements including policies, programs and infrastructure with short-term, medium-term and long-term goals.

“Active transportation is an important piece of our overall transportation and infrastructure plan,” stated Mayor Sylvia Pranger. “Feedback from the community is vital and will help ensure that our District is accessible to everyone. Please consider taking the survey and help shape the future of active transportation in Kent.”

Active transportation has come up in official conversation a number of times in recent months while discussing the pathways along the district’s dike system and potential improvements for the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge.

The survey takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The questions ask basic demographic information, different modes of transportation used in their lives and about what residents would like to see in the future.

The deadline to participate in the survey is Friday, Dec. 16. There are paper copies of the survey available at District Hall during regular office hours at 7170 Cheam Avenue in Agassiz. There is an online version available at surveymonkey.ca/KentATNP.

Participants will be entered into a prize draw for a $50 gift card to Munchikone.
