A tense situation in Agassiz on Wednesday night ended peacefully.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team rushed to the scene of a Beaman Drive home on Wednesday (June 7), responding to a man who barricaded himself inside the home. Witnesses saw at least 10 ERT vehicles racing down Highway 1 the Bridal Falls exit and onward to Agassiz. Pedestrians and cyclists were asked to steer clear of the area while the police handled the situation.

About two hours after the incident began, the male was apprehended by police without incident. Agassiz RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Mike Sargent said the male was then taken to Chilliwack General Hospital for medical evaluation.

At no point was the male a danger to the greater public.
