Police say a man tried to pull a female hiker into his vehicle at Sumas Mountain Regional Park on Aug. 29.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is investigating an incident in which they say a man tried to pull a female hiker into his vehicle.

APD media officer Const. Art Stele said the incident occurred Thursday, Aug. 29 at about 1:30 p.m. on the hiking trails around Sumas Mountain Regional Park.

"A female hiker reported being approached by an unknown male who allegedly attempted to pull her into his vehicle for unknown reasons. Fortunately, the hiker managed to break free and escape," Stele said.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s who is five-foot-nine with a medium build. He has short blonde or orange hair and wore a white T-shirt.

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer-model white open-box pickup truck with stock tires and suspension.

Stele said the public is advised to be more vigilant and use caution when using the trails in and around the park.

Anyone with information or video footage around the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact Det. Nathan Perrey at Nathan.perrey@abbypd.ca.
