Saturday sees record rainfall in Agassiz-Harrison

Nearly 60 millimetres of rain fell in Agassiz-Harrison on Saturday (Aug. 24) alone after a system of heavy rain ran through the Fraser Valley

A 20-year record fell along with a significant amount of rain in Agassiz-Harrison. 

According to the latest report from Weather Canada, 57 millimetres of rain fell on Agassiz-Harrison on Saturday (Aug. 24), handily breaking a the previous record of 36 millimetres set in 2004. 

With 25 millimetres of rain falling on Friday (Aug. 23), the two wettest days this August saw nearly five times the amount of rain than all of July combined. According to the most recent set of climate norms (1981 to 2010) published by Weather Canada, the 29-year monthly average for rainfall in August was about 58 millimetres. This means Agassiz-Harrison saw nearly as much rain in one day on Saturday as they would have in a typical, full August. 

As of Wednesday (Aug. 28 morning), the total precipitation in Agassiz-Harrison for the month is 111 millimetres. With the rain that fell on Sunday (11.8 millimetres) and Monday (6.4 millimetres), August's rain has surpassed June's 107.2 millimetres. By the end of the month, August will see at least a bit above average rainfall with the 2024 average being 104.1 millimetres to date. 

As of Monday, a total of 832.6 millimetres of precipitation has fallen on Agassiz-Harrison.
