Fraser-Cascade School District 78 Superintendent Balan Moorthy recently penned a letter to the communities the district serves, thanking them for their resilience in what he calls some of the most challenging years in B.C. history.

In addition to learning loss, safety protocols and health worries related to the first two years of COVID-19, Moorthy listed a number of challenges students and staff overcame during the 2021-22 school year. They included flooding, fires, the heat dome, road closure and the toll all the events has taken on collective mental health.

“Our school community has worked hard at fulfilling our district motto, ‘everyone pulling together,’ Moorthy wrote. “Our teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly, and they have been some of our heroes through the pandemic. Thank you to our parents and caregivers for bringing your children back to school and working with us as we return to a new normal. It has been wonderful watching our schools transform into what they should be – a safe place for our students to grow and learn.”
