Some Sunday B.C. Transit service in the Agassiz-Harrison area will be discontinued for the season soon.

B.C. Transit announced Sunday service on route 71 in Agassiz-Harrison will discontinue starting Tuesday, Sept. 6. The summer shuttle, route 56 to Cultus Lake, will be seasonally discontinued the same day.

This discontinuation may not be in the long-term local transportation plan. Back in March, representatives from B.C. Transit met with local officials to discuss their Transit Future Action Plan (TFAP). In the short term, B.C. Transit hopes to provide consistent Sunday and stat holiday service to Route 11. In the next three to five years, B.C. Transit is looking to increase weekday service hours and introduce a new route between the District of Kent via the Lougheed Highway.

Route 11 saw an average of 160 riders per day between 2019 and 2020, according to the TFAP, which B.C. Transit officials say is a good ridership for the size of the system and that the demand and interest in the transit system is encouraging for future growth and use.
