Two wildfires in the Harrison Mills area are now listed as under control, according to B.C. Wildfire Service.
The Span Creek wildfire was discovered on Monday, Aug. 19, and was believed to be caused by a lightning strike. An initial attack crew of four firefighters was sent two days after the fire was reported.
The Harrison Hill wildfire – which was reported on Aug. 9 – is still under the BCWS's watch. The BCWS may continue patrolling the area and handling any hotspots but the fire is minimal and not expected to spread. No reports for this fire are expected unless circumstances change. The Harrison Hill wildfire is also believed to be lightning-caused.
The cooler, wetter conditions today are likely to help.
There have been about 20 wildfires in the Agassiz-Harrison area since March. Much of the eastern Fraser Valley remains under a low to moderate fire danger classification.
To report a wildfire, call the BCWS at 1-800-663-5555, *5555 on a cell phone or report it through their mobile app.
