The Village of Harrison’s water distribution project broke ground on Monday, starting with upgrades on Pine Street.
Village of Harrison mayor Leo Facio said the engineering company doing the project is consulting with homeowners throughout the duration of the project.
After Pine Street is complete, construction will start on Lakberg Crescent, Diamond Street, Emerald Avenue and Angus Estates.
The water upgrade project was announced in November after the Village secured provincial and federal funding amounting to $2.29 million.
The project will upgrade above-ground reservoir water supply, expand water distribution systems into residential neighbourhoods and connect approximately 100 Harrison homes to municipal water.
Participation in the water upgrade is compulsory and comes with a price tag. The one-time water connection fee is $1,575 and a quarterly service fee and water user fee are to be billed on a quarterly basis.
The annual water user fee is $280 per single family dwelling and applies even to impacted properties that don’t connect to the municipal system. These properties will be billed starting one year from the date that water services become available and outstanding fees will appear on property taxes.
In November, Facio estimated upgrades would be complete by March.
