District of Kent residents are invited to test their swimming skills for a good cause next weekend.

The District of Kent is hosting the Community Swimathon on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Ferny Coombe Pool (6820 Pioneer Avenue) in Agassiz. The fundraising event will support the future regional aquatice centre, which would be located at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre on Pioneer Avenue and ultimately take the place of the outdoor pool.

Racers will be divided into three groups: individuals, teams and first responders. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsorship levels range from $10 to $200-plus.

Wimmers will have to register at the CRCC. Swimmers will be responsible for meeting their sponsorship goal. Participants in the swimathon are given a 30-minute swimming timeslot and will challenge themselves to swim as many laps as they can in that time period.

All swimmers must be able to comfortably swim one length of the pool. Swimming aids – kickboards, flippers, life jackets and more – will be available for use. Prizes will be awarded to those who swim the most laps, show the best swimming spirit and the highest amount raised.

For more information, contact the CRCC at 604-796-8891 or via email at crccinfo@kentbc.ca.
