A new Agassiz resident was shocked and angered to find fixtures, appliances and tools valued at approximately $12,000 stolen from his property over the weekend.

Numerous new appliances, still in Costco boxes, including a fridge, a range, a dishwasher, a washer and a dryer were taken from Don Sharpe’s new home on the north side of Agassiz, currently undergoing major renovations. Light fixtures, sink faucets, showerheads and expensive RYOBI tools are also among the items missing, according to Sharpe’s Facebook post.

Fortunately he has insurance, but Sharpe said he’s disturbed by the violation.

“We’re building a house and moving into the area and then this happens… it’s really disconcerting,” he said. “I was angry that someone felt that this was okay. It’s a pretty brazen on their part to be able to think that they can just walk into someone’s place and take their stuff.”

Sharpe’s advice is for everyone to take extra caution with their valuables.

“It comes down to; lock your things up and don’t leave anything laying around,” he said. “It was an awful experience.”

“If you hear of anything, or see anything suspicious than you should report it to the RCMP and if you know something, let them know.”

RCMP are investigating the theft.
