Do you know someone who excels teaching grade-school students about agriculture?

The Abbotsford-based B.C. Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation (BCAITC) is soliciting nominations for its annual Outstanding Teacher in Agriculture Award.

Any teacher whose K-12 classroom lessons touch on agriculture or food can be nominated.

According to the BCAITC website, “Nominees may contribute unique or excellent teaching tools, techniques, or curriculum content and/or present ongoing professional development and opportunities to expand students’ and colleagues’ relationships to agriculture learning.”

Teachers who won this award in prior years did things like introducing a new agriculture technology program, hosting agriculture career days, writing agriculture into the school curriculum or starting their entire school on a garden project.

“We’ve had so many outstanding award recipients in prior years and we look forward to recognizing another superstar in agriculture education this year,” said Pat Tonn, Executive Director at BCAITC. “The seeds of knowledge that these teachers plant with students today will create lifelong connections to agriculture, so it’s important to recognize excellence in the field.”

Nominations are being accepted until Nov. 1.

A nomination form can be downloaded from www.bcaitc.ca/awards-recognition, filled out and emailed to pat@aitc.ca
