Chilliwack’s COVID-19 case count took a big leap in the wrong direction last week, according to the latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
A report on local health authorities (LHA) covering the period of April 4 to 10 shows Chilliwack with 130 cases, up 53 from the previous report (77 from March 28 to April 3).
The highest case count in Chilliwack was 156, recorded between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2.
Chilliwack is now averaging between 15.1 and 20 cases per 100,000 people, the second worst of the six categories defined by the BCCDC.
The worst category is averaging 20-plus cases per 100,000 people, and just about all of Chilliwack’s neighbors to the west fall into that group. Abbotsford jumped from 206 to 313 cases and Mission went from 61 to 86. The only areas of Greater Vancouver not in the 20-plus club are Langley and Richmond. Like Chilliwack, both are teetering on the edge.
The news is better for Chilliwack’s eastern neighbors. Agassiz recorded five cases, down from 14 in the previous report, while Hope went from five to six. Both average between 5.1 and 10 cases per 100,000.
