Chilliwack driver crashes onto Highway 1 from Gibson Road overpass

Firefighters use the Jaws of Life to free a man trapped in his pickup truck that went off the Gibson Road overpass hitting another vehicle Highway 1 in Chilliwack Friday morning.

At least one man is seriously injured after the pickup truck he was driving in went off the Gibson Road overpass late Friday morning, crashed into an eastbound pickup truck on Highway 1 before coming to rest in a ditch.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the man from the pickup, which was sitting upright but appeared to have flipped at least once on its roof.

At least one medevac was called to the scene of the crash but later called off and the injured man was put by paramedics into the back of an ambulance.

Highway 1 was closed completely westbound and reduced to one-lane eastbound as the cause of the crash is investigated.

Firefighters checked on a dog that was lying dead in a puddle on a farm property just a few metres away from the crashed pickup truck, but it was unclear if the animal's death was related to the accident.
