Chilliwack firefighters battled freezing temperatures and howling wind as they responded to a two-alarm fire at a truck repair shop on Industrial Way in Chilliwack Monday afternoon

Firefighters from multiple halls were called in to help fight the fire, which broke out shortly after 3 p.m. at Arrow Transportation Systems, located near the Lickman Road overpass.

Thick, black smoke billowed from the building as firefighters arrived and drifted across nearby Highway 1.

The fire spread quickly into the roof structure, making it unsafe for firefighters to enter the building.

One civilian was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Bourdon. There were no firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire, which is still under investigation, appears to be accidental, Bourdon added.
