While the province’s COVID numbers inch upwards, Chilliwack’s case count is holding steady the last two weeks.
In the latest report on local health authorities (LHA) from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Chilliwack had 67 epi-cases between Mar. 14 and 20. Chilliwack had 69 cases the week prior, making it one of the few LHAs in the entire province to see a drop, however slight it was.
Chilliwack’s case count was at 110 just three weeks ago and hit a high of 156 from Dec. 27 to Jan. 2.
The Agassiz LHA also saw a much-needed drop this week, from 16 to 4, taking it out of hot-spot status.
Both LHAs now average between 5.1 and 10 cases per 100,000 people, third best of the six categories put forth by the BCCDC.

Hope had zero cases, but as mentioned, things aren’t going as well in other areas.
After experiencing a sharp drop last week, Abbotsford jumped from 124 to 144 cases in the latest report, and Langley surged from 121 to 152 cases.
Surrey continues to be the province’s worst COVID hot spot by volume, recording 946 cases this week after having 925 last week.
The Delta and South Surrey/White Rock LHAs took a turn for the worse as well, and both now fall into the second worst BCCDC category, averaging between 15.1 and 20 cases per 100,000 people.
Other hot spots are familiar smaller places like Prince Rupert, Nisga’a, Kitimat, Upper Skeena, Peace River South, Howe Sound and the Bella Coola Valley.
