RCMP are preparing to ramp up police prevention of impaired driving, with Dec. 5 marking the launch of a month-long Counter Attack campaign.

Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Services will be ‘lighting up the highway’ with enhanced enforcement, reminding motorists that impaired driving is not restricted only to alcohol, but also includes cannabis and non-prescription drugs.

“The RCMP encourages everyone to remain compliant with BC Health Authority Regulations over the holiday season,” said Chilliwack RCMP Cst. Mathew Ladouceur. “We urge those who choose to consume anything that may impair their ability to drive while enjoying the season to be responsible and plan ahead for a safe means of transit home.”

Ladouceur offers tips for planning a safe trip:

- Organize a designated driver program with family and friends.

- Plan ahead to travel by public transit or taxi.

- Stay overnight.
